PART 2: SEWING
THE SKIRT
| |
Many people know that the industry sets zippers
without pinning.
But few people know that:
1. Pinning makes zipper sets more difficult to sew.
2. In the industry, even in inexpensive clothing,
zippers must be set so that the zipper closes the
garment precisely on its seam line.
3. Both fly and invisible zippers are set BEFORE their seams are sewn. Instructions are included in the pant sewing book.
4. The easiest way to set an invisible zipper is with a standard (or adjustable) zipper foot.
5. Once learned it takes no longer than 5 minutes to correctly set the zipper shown below. |
Sewing Pants and Skirts shows exactly how,
step-by-step, industrial high-end designing
departments sew zippers into garments so that the
exact seam closure is maintained. The zipper set shown below is included in that book.
In this diagram from Chapter 8: Setting the
Lapped, Hand- pricked Zipper, the reader is shown
how to use pinning - please note that only two pins
are used - until she has mastered the techniques
needed to set this zipper correctly. Once learned,
this zipper can be professionally set, without pins,
in only a few minutes.
